The story

The Challenge

CRC’s most important asset is its cases, with their successes and hard-won lessons. On the old site that asset was nearly unusable, tucked into collapsing accordions that made even landmark litigation hard to find. Advocates and organizers wanting to know “what’s been challenged in my state?” had no way to ask. The organization needed a sharper visual identity, a dramatically better user experience, and above all a site that works as a working resource for civil rights activists, one CRC’s own team could keep evolving.

Our Approach

The insight: treat the docket like a library, not a list. We built an interactive map and directory that lets anyone drill down by state to explore CRC’s cases (successes and challenges alike), with associated case documents attached, plus a companion directory for reports and publications with related-content connections and an in-page PDF viewer for primary sources. Around this core we refreshed the logo and brand, designed custom templates for the case library and program work, wrote SEO-optimized copy for key pages so the litigation gets found, and trained the team so the site grows as the docket does.

Why It Worked

Movements run on shared knowledge. Structuring CRC’s cases as an explorable resource, rather than an archive to scroll past, converts years of litigation into infrastructure that organizers, journalists, and attorneys across the country can actually use.

From accordions to infrastructure.

What was once tucked into collapsing accordions is now a working resource: organizers, journalists, and attorneys can ask “what’s been challenged in my state?” and get an answer — with the case record right there behind it.
