A 50-year legacy, a brand-new frame
Approaching its 50th anniversary, Professional Women Photographers got a refreshed brand, a true member portal, and a website that finally displays members’ work the way it deserves.

The story
The Challenge
PWP’s website had needed replacing for years (the organization had been discussing a redesign since 2017), but for a volunteer-run group, the harder truth was structural. The image-heavy legacy site loaded slowly and dragged down search visibility; member signups and renewals were a recurring headache; and the aesthetic didn’t honor the caliber of work PWP members produce. With the 50th anniversary approaching, a newly aligned leadership team wanted more than a facelift: a clearer identity, a real membership system, and a site where photography looks like photography.
Our Approach
The strategic insight: for a photography organization, restraint is the design. Instead of housing thousands of full-size images, the new site presents curated previews of each member’s work on custom profile pages within a searchable Find a Photographer directory and links out to members’ own portfolios, keeping pages fast and every image sharp. We refreshed the logo for a modern, mobile-ready mark, built a membership platform that migrated 130+ members and finally made joining and renewing simple, integrated the events calendar with membership so member and non-member pricing just works, added an exhibitions directory for PWP’s shows, and optimized 1,000 images for a site that stays light without ever looking it.
Why It Worked
The site works because it respects the work. Curated previews over exhaustive galleries, speed over sprawl, and a membership system that removes friction — every choice served the photographers, which is the only audience that matters for PWP.
The Results
A brand and website the organization is proud to put its name on — logo included
Membership signup and renewal transformed from headache to workflow
Member work displayed artfully on fast, high-quality profile pages
Events with member pricing, an exhibitions archive, and a platform ready for the next 50 years

More than a redesign.
The overhaul became a strategic exercise for the all-volunteer team, clarifying roles, vision, and purpose along the way. A new website turned into a newly aligned organization.
“Our new website has already driven a 44.5% increase in membership compared to this time last year. The outcome has exceeded all expectations. I highly recommend Elevation — their detailed, supportive work truly elevates your organization. Pun intended.”
